The idea

Let’s face it; most bank cards are pretty boring. Little more than a branding opportunity for financial institutions, cards typically feature brand colours along with a giant logo. But what if you’re not into horses or have an aversion to the colour blue?

At TallyMoney, we believe that people have the right to choose. Be that the money they use for everyday spending and saving or the card they take on vacation. So, we decided to turn our TallyMoney Debit Mastercard® into a blank canvas for upcoming British creatives. A pocket-sized art piece, if you will.

The brief

Working with Goldsmiths, The University of Reading and The University of Brighton, we asked students to flex their creative muscles and design a brand new TallyMoney Debit Mastercard that would take pride of place in any wallet.

The design needed to reflect TallyMoney’s ethos of better money in a better account and could be created using any discipline of their choosing – because we’re all about choice, right? We also asked them to provide an artist statement explaining how their artwork represented TallyMoney.

The judging

Continuing with the theme of democracy and choice, we created a makeshift gallery of all the entries at TallyMoney HQ. Each and every team member was given a first, second and third-place ribbon to pin alongside their favourite pieces.

Using a points system, we tallied (see what we did there?) up all the votes to decide which four artworks would become our first-ever ‘Art Card’ series.
